Week 3 Injury Free

After completing my programme last week and getting through it in tact, a round of golf on Monday was a welcome relief.

Monday: Although the Thurlestone Golf Course was as stunning and beautiful as always, my golf was far from pretty and my team were trounced by the other groups in the Tetley's Rollup. No such things as a bad round at TGC because the views are so uplifting.

John Moore delivered my normal Monday afternoon stretch, manipulate and grind treatment to get my body ready for the challenges of the coming week.

Tuesday: Devon's weather at it's worst! Very high winds and heavy rain had pummelled our lovely region over night and had continued into the day. No run for me along Bowcombe lane. The Quay Leisure Centre gym and its running treadmills were beckoning.

7k variable run including shorter, 400m, higher pace, hmmm, repeats were a new feature to extend my running repertoire. The main problem was the inconsistencies between my Garmin Forerunner smart watch and the data on the treadmill. Quite bizarre. Anyway, according to my watch I'd run 7.5k and the treadmill thought it was 8.8.

Felt great afterwards, so attacked my Upper body strength workout.

Whilst working through these I noticed a lady member from TGC on the same treadmill as I was using. Shes 80+ and is an inspiration to many, she certainly inspires me!

Wednesday:  Lower body strength today. Lot's of warmup exercises and stretches, a full routine and finished with stretches to help protect against injury. That's the theory.

Decided I needed some trash food and skipped the High Protein, eggs, eggs and more eggs and went for the yummy fish finger sarnie with the obligatory 5th finger. Much needed.

Back to Kingsmen Rehearsals tonight. A great way to spend the evening.

The Chorus is always looking for new members, so please get in touch or just come along any Wednesday evening at the Christian Fellowship Church on Fore Street Kingsbridge.

Thursday: Rest day. Well actually a forced, weather imposed, rest day. Blogs and JustGiving page set up and a journey up to Cheltenham.

Thank you to those who've already donated, if you feel include to support,

Friday: Off to see Mum. Cheltenham to Redhill, 250 miles round trip. Back by 2pm and out running. 8k easy run. That's a laugh. Since when was an 8k run easy!?

With both legs screaming at me I managed to complete the task. My sister in law, Sarah had mapped a route from Charlton Kings to Cheltenham Station and back. Getting to the station was fine but took a wrong turning that extended my return leg to 5.5k. But got to see bits of Cheltenham I hadn't previously seen. Please with my tempo and that my hamstrings held up.

Sunday: 9k long run, with faster intervals. I felt pretty good for this one and spent a long time warming up and hydrating. I decided to try out taking on water whilst still running. Ha. I've a long way to go with this and spilt more over my vest than into my mouth.

The breathing technique I'm using is becoming almost meditative, 3 seconds in and 4 seconds out, both steady through the nose. No racing heart, hyperventilating, panic attacks. Phew.

If you'd like to support my efforts please go to my JustGiving page and contribute whatever you can towards this vital charity.
